What do you do on a Saturday afternoon when your Boilers aren't playing? You and your buddy Devin go out to try more wings, that's what! Devin actually went to Quad City Pizza Company with me, so he new what was up as I opened up my Google Sheets app to take notes on these wings from one of the many Van's locations around the Quad Cities. Do their menus differ enough to warrant trying wings from all of them? That's a genuine question, so if you know, leave a comment below! These wings were definitely good enough to make me interested in comparing between here and Van's Downtown Davenport at the least. The Harrison Street location also has a fun atmosphere and wonderful lighting for dramatic wing pics (and beer pics! See below). Did you know their patio has games out there? That's pretty neat. The Iowa State game also happened to be on while we were there and all of the fans were clearly involved in the game without being obnoxious or disturbing other patrons. Big fan. Anyway! On to the wings!
The first thing that hits you with these wings is a strong peppercorn flavoring. I found that really enjoyable and a change of pace from most hot wings you find on menus. That alone makes the flavor of these wings my favorite that I've tried so far, and the extra heat that they had just amped these wings up even more. The fry and meat quality of the wings was above par as well. My only complaint was the price of these wings felt a little steep for the quantity that I got, but that could also be because I've anchored my expectations on various wing deals and specials that I've benefited from. If you're ever looking for a place to grab a beer with some buds or watch the game (whatever that game may be for you), I'd definitely recommend giving Van's Pizza Pub & Grille a shot. As always, if you have recommendations of wings I should try, or if you'd like to be my wingman or wingwoman for a future review, drop a comment below (or shoot me a text if you've got my number).
